Junior ROTC Program

1. Program Overview

The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps) program is a high school elective designed to
Aiken HS New Tech Honor Guard
teach leadership, character, and citizenship. It is not a military recruitment tool; there is no obligation for students to join the military after graduation.
  • Who Can Join: Open to all students in grades 9–12.
  • What We Do: Our curriculum combines classroom instruction with hands-on activities. Topics include leadership theory, wellness, US history, civics and financial management.
  • Instructors: Classes are taught by retired military service members who are certified as instructors by both the military and the state.
  • Uniforms: Cadets are issued a military-style dress uniform at no cost. Uniforms are typically worn once per week on a designated school day.

2. Key Benefits of JROTC

Aiken HS New Tech JROTC

Participation in JROTC provides students with a "future-ready" skillset that benefits them in college and civilian careers.

  • Academic Excellence: JROTC cadets statistically have higher GPAs, better attendance records, and higher graduation rates compared to the general student population.
  • Leadership Development: Students don't just study leadership; they practice it by managing peers, leading meetings and coordinating unit events.
  • College & Career Readiness:
    • Admissions Boost: JROTC is highly regarded by college admissions officers as it demonstrates maturity and responsibility.
    • Scholarships: Cadets are eligible for various college scholarships, including full-ride ROTC scholarships.
    • Military Advancement: Students who complete 2–4 years of JROTC and choose to enlist can enter the military at a higher rank and pay grade.
      • Life Skills: Training includes first aid, public speaking, conflict resolution, and physical fitness.

3. Competitive Teams & Extracurricular

Beyond the classroom, cadets can join specialized teams that compete locally and nationally:

  • Raider Team: High-intensity physical fitness and obstacle course competitions.
